[INES Announce] Prometheans Call for Proposals: SHOT 2026 Annual Meeting (virtual), proposals due 13 July

Dear Colleagues,
The Society for the History of Technology (SHOT) will hold its 2026 Annual Meeting online, 22–25 October, on the theme "Technology, Politics and Policy." The virtual format makes it unusually easy to take part from anywhere in the world, and the Prometheans Special Interest Group — together with the Engineering Studies working group at the Consortium for the History of Science, Technology & Medicine — invites you to propose a presentation for one of three Prometheans-sponsored sessions.
We are organizing three kinds of sessions this year:

A traditional paper session, "Engineers and Policy: Historical Perspectives on Authority, Regulation, and the Engineering Profession," asking how engineers have shaped, and been shaped by, policy. An interactive methods workshop, "Research Methods in the History of Engineering" — a working session to share and test methods for researching engineering history, including the design drawings, specifications, patents, reports, and gray literature that often demand approaches unlike other historical work. https://www.historyoftechnology.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Prometheans-2_3.pdf

An object session, "One Object, Many Stories" — a close look at a single engineered object, such as an instrument, structure, prototype, component, or piece of infrastructure, used to open a larger history of engineering practice. https://www.historyoftechnology.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Prometheans-3_3.pdf

The form asks for a proposed title and a short abstract (350 words max), a brief bio or the first page of your CV, your preferred time-zone block, and whether you intend to apply for the Joan Cahalin Robinson Prize (https://www.historyoftechnology.org/about-us/awards-prizes-and-grants/joan-cahalin-robinson-prize/).
